Special Assistant on Forestry Lauds Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Vision for Ondo State’s Future

Bidemi Joshua Obayangban, the Special Assistant on Forestry to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has expressed his heartfelt admiration for the governor’s steadfast dedication to propelling Ondo State toward a brighter future. Adding a personal touch to this significant event, Hon. Obayangban shared his joy that the project’s flag-off coincides with his birthday month, June, as a proud Gemini.
He sees this alignment as a serendipitous sign of positive change and progress for the state.
This commendation centers on the eagerly anticipated dualization of the Igbokoda–Okitipupa Road, a transformative infrastructure project set to break ground on June 2nd, 2025.
Far more than a routine road upgrade, this initiative stands as a cornerstone of the governor’s vision to uplift the quality of life for residents and cement sustainable growth across the region.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to development is well-established, and Hon. Obayangban was quick to highlight this. Beyond the upcoming road project, the governor has already left his mark through initiatives like: Construction of primary healthcare centers in remote areas. Programs to bolster local farming communities.These efforts showcase a leader intent on addressing both immediate needs and long-term prosperity. Currently, this vital artery is a narrow, deteriorating stretch plagued by: Potholes, Poor drainage, Frequent congestion, Residents have long endured hazardous conditions—accidents are common, and travel times are unpredictable, especially during the rainy season when flooding worsens the road’s state.
The dualization will address these issues head-on by: Widening the road, Adding proper signage, Installing street lighting, Including pedestrian pathways. These upgrades promise safer, faster, and more reliable travel for commuters, whether they’re heading to work, school, or markets.
Hon. Obayangban described the project as a “vital step” toward strengthening economic ties in the Southern Senatorial District, and for good reason. This region brims with potential: Fertile lands produce crops like cassava and plantains.
Coastal areas yield seafood and attract tourists with scenic beauty. Yet, the existing road has stifled growth. Farmers lose income when produce spoils during slow trips to market, and businesses hesitate to invest in an area with unreliable access. The dualized road will change this narrative by: Cutting transportation costs and travel times, Helping farmers get goods to market faster, Boosting livelihoods and stabilizing food supply chains. Local entrepreneurs will benefit too, as improved connectivity makes the district more attractive for investment.
Imagine New logistics hubs springing up along the route, Tourists flocking to explore cultural sites and beaches. Hon. Obayangban envisions a ripple effect: jobs created, small businesses thriving, and a more vibrant economy taking root.

The current road’s narrow, dimly lit stretches have made it a hotspot for: Accidents Crime, from robberies to ambushes, Its poor condition also hampers law enforcement, slowing response times to emergencies. With dualization, these challenges will fade.
A wider, well-lit road will: Deter criminal activity, Improve visibility, Allow security agents and emergency services to patrol effectively and respond swiftly, Plans for checkpoints and regular patrols along the route further underscore the governor’s focus on safety. “This is about more than asphalt,” Hon. Obayangban emphasized. “It’s about peace of mind for our people. In a passionate appeal, Hon. Obayangban called on Ondo State’s residents to rally behind Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration. He praised the governor’s proven track record—projects delivered on time and promises kept—as evidence of leadership worth supporting.
